Dunav shares its knowledge of music and dance through this web site and a number of products. Contributing to Dunav makes you part of that. Your contributions help ensure the accessibility of Balkan folklore.
We are interested in exchanging music and video from our extensive collection in returnn for music and video from your collections. We are also interested in pictures of folk costumes, song lyrics, and music scores.
In addition, Dunav is actively seeking donations to help sponsor this site and the surrounding activities that enable this site. At this time, we are only able to accept cash or checks. Every little bit helps, and we appreciate even little bits.
Dunav activities
Dunav promotes Balkan folklore through music and dance from Balkan countries. Income from our weekly dancing, purchase of Dunav products, and Dunav sponsors is used to enable this web site, to produce Dunav products, to sponsor the folklore database, and to fund additional music and folkdance events.
- Running a weekly group for Balkan folk dancing
- Field research in the Balkan countries to document folklore and bring back songs and dances
- Annual events that enable the public at large to experience Balkan folklore, including dancing and singing to live music and performances by local dance troupes and musicians
- Directing and running the Dunav performing group who perform at Dunav events, and also allow us to film dances for the Dunav database
- Sponsoring of local dance workshops with dance teachers from abroad
- Annual folkdance weekend abroad in the Balkans with local dance teachers and musicians
- Parties to promote the feeling of community for members
