Rom folk dance music

Bronx Pharo [Rom]

This amazing music is a Romani wedding dance from the Bronx, by Yuri Yunakov’s Romani Wedding Band. They are currently on tour in the US. You can get more information from Voice of Roma who organized and sponsored the tour: http://www.voiceofroma.com/kal/yitinerary.htm.

Ciganko Horo [Rom]

Rom music that goes all over the place, a cocek with pravo interludes - very interesting tune!

Cocek [Rom]

Cocek like the Rom people was scattered across the Balkans, mostly throughout Bulgaria, Serbia, Republic of Macedonia and Romania. It emerged during the early 19th century. Popularized by Ottoman military bands, it is a variation of an old 3-measure dance-form related to the Hasapiko or Kasapsko oro. Today it is found in many parts of the Balkans and dance under a variety of names. More

Djelem Djelem [Rom]

Djelem Djelem is the anthem of the Roma people. It was a very popular song among Serbian Gypsies in the 60's and there are various texts to the melody. It may have been an old Romanian folk song re-written by Rom in Serbia, who also changed the tempo. The melody of this song became popular in Europe in the end of the 60's from Alexander Petrovic's film Skupljaci perja (The Buyer of Feathers) known under the name "I Have Met Some Happy Gypsies".

Djulijano Djulijano [Rom]

Djulijano Djulijano is a Rom folk dance.

Kocanska Gaida [Rom]

The music that we originally picked for last week ended up being controversial, and we apologize for any misunderstandings or confusion that we may have caused. Kocanska Gaida is one of Sani's dances, and a personal favorite.

Opa Tsupa

A great gypsy version for Kolo.

Rumelaj [Gypsy]

Rumelaj is a popular melody for dancing Jeni Jol.

Sa From Bujanovac [Rom]

Another Sa, introduced by Steve Kotansky. It's almost the same dance as Sa Gjijile, but it doesn't have the second part (with two steps before the 1-2-3). Great music!
